Synthesis, Characterization and Investigation of Catalytic Activity in Hydrogen Production of New Polymeric Catalysts Containing Imidazole and Phenanthroimidazole

Project duration: May 2025 - May 2027
Funding organization: TUBITAK
Project Manager: Merve Zurnacı
Researchers: Kutalmış Gökkuş, Mahmut Gur, Zeynep Gökkuş, Çetin Çakanyıldırım
Project number: 125M069

Aim of the project: The aim of this project proposal is to synthesize and characterize new hyper-crosslinked polymers containing imidazole and phenanthroimidazole structures, which are expected to exhibit high catalytic activity in hydrogen (H2) production by methanolysis of NaBH4, and to investigate the thermal resistance and reusability properties of these polymers during hydrogen production.

Production of High-Performance Cellulosic Catalysts from Wood and Hemp Wastes for Hydrogen Production

Project duration: 28 February 2025 – 28 February 2027
Funding organization: Kastamonu University
Project Manager: Mahmut Gur
Researchers: Kutalmis Gokkus, Ekrem Durmaz, Vural Bütün, Ali Özcan, Aysegul Ozbal
Project number: KÜ-İHT/2024

Aim of the project: The main objective of the project is to develop innovative and environmentally friendly energy production technologies using cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) obtained from forest and hemp wastes found abundantly in Kastamonu Province. In this direction, the project aims to produce high-performance catalysts through chemical modification of CNFs and to investigate the usability of these products in hydrogen production.

Increasing the Thermal Resistance of Nanocellulose Types Obtained with Different Modification Methods for Their Conversion into High Technological Products

Project duration: 28 Feb. 2025 – 28 Feb. 2027
Funding organization: Kastamonu University
Project Manager: Ekrem Durmaz
Researchers: Kutalmis Gokkus, Mahmut Gur, Vural Bütün, Mursel Arici, Umay Merve Senturan
Project number: KÜ-İHT/2024

Aim of the project: The main purpose of the project is to improve the thermal properties of hemp, a highly valuable annual plant its production is encouraged in Kastamonu. Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) will produce from wood waste using different modification methods, and transform them into materials with high thermal and mechanical strength and ensure that these new generation bio-based nanocellulosic materials will transformed into high value-added materials with advanced characteristics that can be used in the production of electronic devices. In addition, another important aim of the project is that, with the transformation of hemp into high value-added products, a great economic contribution will be made to Kastamonu and its surroundings, where it is grown.

Obtaining New Generation Eco-Friendly and High-Performance Cellulose Derivative Hyper Crosslinked Polymers with High Surface Area and Specific Pore Diameter

Project duration: 17 February 2025 – 17 February 2027
Funding organization: Kastamonu University
Project Manager: Kutalmis Gokkus
Researchers: Mahmut Gur, Ergin Murat Altuner, Nurgul Kitir Sen, Ekrem Durmaz, Umay Merve Senturan
Project number: KÜ-İHT/2024

Aim of the project: The main purpose of this project is to produce environmentally friendly high-performance materials needed in high-tech products. This will be achieved by converting hemp waste in Kastamonu province into high-performance products. For this, cellulose nanofibrils will be produced from hemp waste, converted into hyper-cross-linked cellulose beads by surface modification and hollow beads will be produced by biodegradation.
